The Royal Castle of Cognac overlooking the river Charente was first a fortress of the 10th century to stop the Norman invasions, and in the 15th century a seigneurial home where was born one of the most illustrious kings of France, Francis I. The Baron Otard, who had founded his Cognac House in 1795, quickly understood how the thickness of the walls offered exceptional and unique conditions for the aging of its eaux-de-vie.
